Aww this actually made me a little sad. I've been in Omaha, Nebraska now for 5 years (via Michigan,Ohio, New York, California) and it's one of the most unique places I've lived so far. I'm sorry to be Debbie Downer, but there's nothing about this that says Nebraska.

Love it! It says Nebraska to me as it's pretty barren and wide open.

I think some people are missing the point of this project. The point isn't to illustrate the state motto accurately or capture the feel or vibe of the state, the point is simply that the designer is actually FROM the state they're designing. Beyond that, it's just their interpretation and the creative direction is wide open.

Kudos to Dan Cassaro on this project. It's really well done and I'm sure it wasn't an easy task organizing 50 designers, promoting the site, building the site, etc…

Just because you may get the point of the project, doesn't mean someone else does.

I don't care if my reason for liking the piece does or doesn't cut it with you, or anyone else for that matter. It's personal opinion, so it only needs to cut it with me.

If you think the project is just a bunch of designers who are purely aesthetic driven and lack conceptualizing abilities, why waste your time here? The participating designers were interested and wanted to get involved with the project, which is in addition to their regular workload, less time spent with their families, etc, so it's a bit unfair to hold the contributions to this higher set of standards you would like to see. I'm sure there's better things for you to do than ramble on and give people the impression that you're just angry, or possibly bitter that you weren't asked to contribute. Where's the link back to your portfolio?

I enjoy the piece quite a bit. Why the hate for what Darren said? I understand what he's saying just fine and it's basically to cut the designers some slack if you don't like it because it's an unpaid project, etc. He's entitled to his opinion just as you are to yours, but you don't need to insult anyone, especially someone who was just trying to have an intelligent discussion, James.

I'm curious how the motto itself is fitting for Nebraska. As a Nebraska native, the motto "Equality Before the Law" does not exactly fit the widespread mindset in this state...I certainly wish it did! And, the piece itself, I like very much. Maybe it's something for Nebraskans to shoot for.

When I first looked at this piece (being as I am from NE and was very excited to see how it was illustrated) I was a bit let down. Then I started reading comments, looking at other pieces and decided that this project has soon many different things that could be done and the easy route would have been to do something with football or corn maybe even homestead trail or chimney rock. So for that choice to do something very simple, text driven I applaud this piece (even if I am still trying to see his vision lol).

I absolutely LOVE this project! But is it necessary to use the state motto? All of our signs coming into this amazing state say "The Good Life" I was really looking forward to that being what was designed. I was hoping to get it printed on a phone cover. Hopefully someone can get to it and get out a new NE design.
